Could Hot Tubs Really be the New Obesity Treatment?

Mankind has searched for new ways to lose weight for as far back as we can remember. We’ve researched, studied, tested and more for decades, always on the hunt for the fastest way to lose weight using as little energy as possible. Is there even really such a thing? Actually, there may be a final conclusion the most popular question our society has. The answer? Hot Tubs.

The University of Oregon conducted a study with 6 overweight women over the course of two months. Each participant soaked in a hot tub for a total of 1-hour, 3 to 4 times a week and had fat samples taken before and after the study. The findings were astounding. A noticeable difference in the amount of inflammation and fat proteins led scientists to conclude that relaxing in a hot tub provides some of the same benefits as aerobic exercise such as:

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Reduced heart rate
  • Increased circulation
  • Warmer body temperature
  • Increased metabolism
  • Higher concentration of endorphins (the feel-good hormone)
  • Better heart health

In addition to these awesome findings, researchers also noticed improvements in factors related to insulin resistance, which could mean that spas sessions may one day be used to reduce the chances of Type 2 diabetes in patients with an increased risk.

But wait! That’s not all… Relaxing in a hot tub reduces the amount of cortisol, also known as the stress hormone. Studies have shown that a higher concentration of cortisol can lead to cravings for fattier, saltier foods while reducing muscle mass resulting in a slower metabolism.

There may not be a magic pill for weight loss yet, but soaking in a hot tub is much more fun anyway. SpaExpo has the perfect hot tubs for your weight loss journey, contact us or swing by our showroom and see what we can do for you.
