Hot Tub Safety Basics

Bringing home a new addition to your family is always exciting! You’ll be using your hot tub so much it will soon feel like a member of your squad! Whether it’s strictly for the enjoyment of your household, or open to the neighborhood, it’s smart to come up with a few ground rules for the safety of everyone. Here are a few hot tub safety basics to get you started:

House Rules for Hot Tub Safety

Sit down with your family and come up with some ground rules, making sure everyone is on the same page for hot tub safety. This is a great way to get everyone involved in being responsible. You may have to add a few to this list depending on the ages of your kids or during a backyard party when you have several guests. But here are a few suggestions:

  • No young children using the hot tub without permission.
  • Only appropriate bathing suit attire in the water, no street clothes allowed.
  • Leave the hot tub covered when not in use.
  • No running around the hot tub area.
  •  Food and drinks are not allowed inside the spa.
  • No pets in the hot tub.

Steamy Not Scalding

Now that you’re ready to relax in your backyard paradise, it’s always important to double-check the temperature before you or your kids climb in. The perfect temperature for stress relief is usually between 102 and 104 degrees. It’s fairly common for hot tub users to change the temperature settings throughout the year. Always check that the temperature you desire is what your spa is set to.

Weather Watch

You probably remember going to the local swimming pool as a kid and having to get out at the first dreaded clap of thunder or sight of lightning. Well, some things never change even as an adult. Always pay attention to the weather conditions and never continue to soak in your hot tub during a thunderstorm. Even rain can throw off the chemical balance of your spa’s water so it should remain covered as well.

Spa Expo knows you take the safety of your family seriously, that’s why we do too. Contact us today with any questions about hot tub safety, or stop by the showroom and let us help you find the perfect spa to bring home with you today.
