It’s that time of year again. The birds are chirping, flowers are blooming, and you’re spring cleaning like a mad person! As you organize your cupboards, clean out your closets, and clear out your basements, don’t forget about spring cleaning your hot tub. You’ll want your spa ready to help you treat the dreaded “gold dust syndrome”, aka allergies, and have everything ready for the upcoming summer.
Why Spring Clean the Hot Tub?
You may think we’re crazy, telling you to add one more thing to your growing to-do list, but in reality, a well-maintained spa runs better and lasts longer. If you store your hot tub for the winter months, it’s time to get everything back in working order. And, even if you used your spa all winter long, it’s time for a deep clean.
Your Guide to Spick and Span
You’ll need a few supplies:
- 5-gallon bucket
- Garden hose
- Non-foaming cleanser
- Microfiber towel
- Spa water chemicals or The Freshwater Salt System
Start with the interior and work your way out, draining your hot tub and giving it a good scrub. You’ll also need to clean and replace your filter, purge your plumbing lines, and refill with clean water. Once you’re done with that, it’s time to test and balance your chemicals.
Once that’s done, you can move to the exterior. Spray the cabinet down with the hose and use the cleaner of your choice. Rinse again and dry with your microfiber towel. Don’t forget to include your cover!
- Bonus points if you organize and store your chemicals! Your chemicals need to be properly stored to keep moisture out and to avoid extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
